Can I clean the refrigerator while it is still on?

Yes, you can clean the inside of the refrigerator while it is still on. However, avoid using excessive water near electrical components or controls. For a thorough cleaning or deep clean, it’s best to unplug the refrigerator to ensure safety.

Why is it important to clean the back of the refrigerator and dust it? Can you do it without unplugging it?

The back of the refrigerator has coils that can accumulate dust over time. Dust buildup reduces cooling efficiency and makes the fridge work harder, increasing energy consumption and wear.

You can clean the back of the fridge without unplugging by gently vacuuming or dusting with a brush attachment. However, be careful not to disturb the electrical components or damage the coils.

For inside cleaning, if I don’t take the shelves out, what products can I use that clean, dry, and don’t leave residue?

Use a mild solution of warm water and baking soda or gentle dish soap. Spray lightly on a cloth or sponge, wipe surfaces gently, then dry with a clean towel. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners, as they can leave residues or damage surfaces.

How do I get rid of the smell of food in the refrigerator?

– Keep food covered or sealed in airtight containers

– Clean spills and remove expired items promptly

– Place an open box of baking soda inside to absorb odors

– Use activated charcoal or refrigerator deodorizer products if needed

– Regularly air out the fridge during cleaning

What are all the shelves for in a refrigerator?

– Top shelf: Usually the coolest spot, good for dairy and ready-to-eat foods

– Middle shelves: Store leftovers, beverages, and packaged foods

– Bottom shelf: Coldest area, ideal for raw meat, poultry, and fish (in a tray to prevent leaks)

– Crisper drawers: Designed for fruits and vegetables with humidity controls

– Door shelves: Store condiments, juices, and other items that tolerate slight temperature changes

What temperature do I keep my refrigerator?

The ideal refrigerator temperature is between 35°F and 38°F (1.6°C to 3.3°C) to keep food fresh and safe.

How long can I keep foods in the freezer?

– Meat and poultry: 4 to 12 months depending on the type

– Fish: 3 to 6 months

– Fruits and vegetables: 8 to 12 months

– Bread and baked goods: 3 months

– Cooked leftovers: 2 to 6 months

It’s best to label items with the date frozen and use a first-in, first-out system to minimize waste.
